This project and group is dedicated to statistical and modeling analysts. This is not to be confused with IT analysts or operational analysts, thought they may benefit from what is shared here. Others that would certainly benefit are those wanting to understand the statistical analyst and the valuable contribution they can bring to their organization.
I have been a statistical analyst for the last 8+ years, mostly in the financial services (in marketing, credit risk, and asset/liability management), with some work in the insurance sector. I have learned many things in my time as an analyst. One thing I have found is that there's a real lack of a guide to navigate the sometimes difficult waters an analyst faces and the various political and business structures that an analyst is exposed to. I've also seen analysts use incorrect statistical methods that I had used and later learned were incorrect.
This blog is also the announcement for a project, titled for now, 'The Statistical Analyst's Effectiveness Guide' which will be a reference guide for analysts, particularly those starting their careers, those continually baffled by the politics of the corporate world, and those analysts that want a reminder every now and then of effectiveness techniques (and those like me who may not carry an intense amount of numbers and equations in their heads so they can impress their coworkers). I was thinking of adding to the title 'to the Galaxy'--however I did not want to play into the sometimes ill- conceived notion that analysts are geeks or nerds that belong on an episode of Star Trek.
This project is most definitely dedicated to my wife and family. Especially my wife who has encouraged me to do this. I'd also like to dedicate this to the great analysts I've had the pleasure to work and be friends with over the years...especially for what they taught be about doing quality work.
I truly hope that everyone who reads this will enjoy it and the adventure it has been and continues to be as I put it together. I invite all analysts to follow this blog and to share their experiences here and at the 'Statistical Analyst Effectiveness Group' (an appendage to this guide project) on Linkedin.

PS--for those interested in knowing why the blog is named enduranalyst.blogspot.com...its simple! Originally this effort was called 'The Enduring Analyst's Guide' Project because I realized I could get the name of my favorite band 'Duran Duran' in it. Hence...en-duran-alyst. Plus...an effective analyst is one who endures and whose work endures. Then I scrapped that idea and made the name more simple and easy to associate with (and I could switch out the G's with 'Group' or 'Guide' as I wanted).
I still like the term, enduranalyst...it will remain as a trademark of this effort. Are you an enduranalyst? Is your work well presented enough and of sufficient quality that it endures as part of your company's culture and mindset?
